This day of celebration was established by the North American Vegetarian Union in 1977 and the International Vegetarian Union in 1978. World Vegetarian Day begins in the month of October as Vegetarian Awareness Month, ending with World Vegetarian Day on 1 November, marking the end of that month of celebrations. Vegetarian Awareness Month is known by the names “Reverence for Life” Month, “Vegetarian Food Month” etc.
