Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde will meet Governor CP Radhakrishnan on Tuesday and submit his resignation as the term of the Maharashtra Assembly ends today. Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde will meet Governor CP Radhakrishnan on Tuesday and submit his resignation as the term of the Maharashtra Assembly ends today.
Earlier in the day, Shinde had appealed to his supporters not to come in large numbers to his official residence in Varsha to retain the chief minister’s post. The Mahayuti alliance, which won an overwhelming majority in the Maharashtra Assembly elections, has time till today to decide on a face for the post of CM, if this does not happen then President’s rule can be imposed in the state. However, the President’s rule can be removed immediately.
The BJP is expected to retain 21 out of 43 ministerial berths, while Shiv Sena and NCP are likely to get 12 and 10 ministerial berths respectively. Furthermore, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has supported Devendra Fadnavis to become the Chief Minister of Maharashtra as they believe that it was Fadnavis’s face that inspired people to support the BJP.
RSS also believes that making Fadnavis the CM will strengthen the coordination of BJP-RSS in the state. On Sunday, Ajit Pawar also supported Fadnavis for the post of CM. At a meeting with newly elected NCP MLAs at his residence, Pawar expressed his support for the flamboyant BJP leader. On the other hand, Shinde’s supporters are advocating him to remain the CM, because under his leadership he has won a huge victory. BJP leaders are advocating for Fadnavis to be sworn in as Chief Minister for the third time.
