Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Shri Bhupendra Yadav announced the official notification of Ratapani Tiger Reserve in Madhya Pradesh as the 57th Tiger Reserve of India. This remarkable step emphasizes India’s diversity towards tiger conservation and embraces the diversity of the nation to conserve its rich biodiversity.

Core area: 763.8 sq km
Buffer area: 507.6 sq km
Total area: 1,271.4 square km
Ratapani Tiger Reserve is now the 8th tiger reserve of Madhya Pradesh, earning the state recognition as the “Tiger State of India”.
- Ratapani Tiger Reserve is located in Raisen and Sehore districts of Madhya Pradesh.
- It covers 1271.4 km², and the core area of the reserve is 763.8 km².
- Located in the Vindhya Hills, the sanctuary has several historical monuments, such as the UNESCO World Heritage Site “Bhimbetka Rock Shelter”, Ginnaurgarh Fort, Keri Mahadev, Ratapani Dam, and Jholiyapur Dam.
- The forests of Ratapani are of dry deciduous and moist deciduous types.
- About 55 percent of the area is covered with teak.
- About 40 tigers, more than 35 mammalian species, 33 reptile species, 14 fish species, 10 amphibian species, and 104 butterfly species are found in this sanctuary.

NTCA is a statutory body established under the Passport Protection Act 1972.
The Union Minister of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change is the Chairman of NTCA.
