1. Tadoba National Park, Maharashtra

Located in the Chandrapur district of Maharashtra, Tadoba National Park is the largest forest area in the state and one of the top places to meet tigers in India. Spread over 625 sq km, a 2022 report by the Wildlife Institute of India estimates that the park is home to around 100 tigers.

2. Kanha National Park, Madhya Pradesh

Serving as the inspiration for Rudyard Kipling’s “The Jungle Book”, Kanha National Park is not only one of the most famous forest reserves but also an excellent place to play a game of hide-and-seek with tigers.

According to the Wildlife Institute of India, this vast forest area spread over 940 sq km supports more than 100 Bengal tigers, making it one of the prime tiger habitats in India. The evergreen forest interspersed with grasslands along the banks of the Banjar and Halon rivers provides several prime locations for tiger viewing.

Along with the high chances of encountering a tiger, tourists can also spot its diverse fauna, which includes chital, gaur, common langur, jackal, wild boar, black buck, leopard, sambar, and ant-eating pangolin. Also more than 1000 species of flowering plants.

3. Sunderban Tiger Reserve, West Bengal

Covering a vast area of ​​2585 sq km, the Sundarbans is home to the much-admired Royal Bengal Tiger. It also has a large number of highly endangered species including aquatic mammals and reptiles. This tiger reserve has many creeks and tributaries which come from three rivers namely Ganga, Brahmaputra, and Meghna.

The name of this tiger reserve is derived from the ‘Sundari’ tree. The central area of ​​this sanctuary has its own natural boundaries, the Matla River in the west, the Haribhanga River in the east and the Netidhopani and Gosba Rivers in the north. These features make this tiger reserve an absolute paradise, most of which is unknown.

4. Bandhavgarh National Park, Madhya Pradesh

Bandhavgarh National Park is one of the most popular tiger reserves in India. It has the highest density of Royal Bengal Tigers and houses the ancient Bandhavgarh Fort which has historical significance. Located in the Umaria district of Madhya Pradesh, Bandhavgarh National Park covers an area of ​​820 sq km.

Apart from having the highest number of tigers, Bandhavgarh is a popular breeding ground for leopards and various species of deer. It has a rich historical past and vast biodiversity. The park is divided into three major areas named Magadi, Tala, and Bamera, of which Tala attracts a large number of tourists by providing many opportunities to see tigers.

Summer Timings: 5:30-10:30 am and 3:30-6:30 pm

5. Jim Corbett National Park, Uttarakhand

Jim Corbett is one of the most popular tourist destinations in India among wildlife lovers. Furthermore, the park is known for its variety of wildlife including Bengal tigers, leopards, and elephants. It is also a great place for bird watching, with over 600 species of birds calling this park their home.
