Vistara Airline
It is a privately owned Indian domestic airline with its head office in Gurgaon, Haryana, and its main base at Indira Gandhi International Airport, Delhi. The airline, a joint venture between Tata Sons and Singapore Airlines, began its services on 9 January 2015 with its first flight between Delhi and Mumbai.
By the end of June 2016, about 20 lakh people flew on it and by April 2016, its share in the Indian domestic aircraft market reached 2.3 percent. The airline currently flies to around 18 destinations with its Airbus A-320 aircraft fleet. Vistara is also the first airline in India to offer premium economy seats on domestic flights.
In October 2013, the Foreign Investment Promotion Board of India approved S. Permission has been granted. 49 percent participation was allowed in this airline. Both parent companies then decided to make an initial investment of $100 million in the venture and Tata Sons and Singapore Airlines acquired 51% and 49% stakes respectively. This was the beginning of Tata Sons’ second innings in Indian aviation and it also had a stake in Air Asia India.
As of October 2016, Vistara’s fleet consisted of 13 Airbus A320-200 aircraft. It has ordered the purchase of seven more Airbus A320neo aircraft and these aircraft will join its fleet by June 2018.
