Todd Phillips American Filmmaker

Phillips was born in Brooklyn, New York City, to a Jewish family. He was raised in Dix Hills on Long Island, New York. He attended New York University Film School But left his studies as he was not able to pay for his completed films as well as for his first film.

Around that time, he worked on Kim’s videos and music. Phillips appeared as a character in the first season of HBO’s hidden camera docu-series Roadcab Conference. Phillips said in The New York Times that she got into trouble in her youth.

Todd Phillips is an American film producer. Phillips began his career in 1993 and directed films such as Road Trip, Old School, Starsky & Hutch, and School for Scoundrels in the 2000s. In the early 2010s, he received widespread support for directing The Hangover film series. In 2019, he co-wrote and directed the psychological film Joker, based on the DC Comics character of the same name, which premiered at the 76th Venice International Film Festival, where it received the top prize, the Golden Lion.

Joker earned Phillips three Academy Award nominations for Best Picture, Best Directed, and Best Adapted Screenplay with his co-writer Scott Silver. After Borat was nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay at the 79th Academy Awards, he received a second, third, and fourth Academy Award nomination.

In 2019, Phillips directed, co-wrote, and co-produced an original story film based on the DC Comics supervillain Joker, Joker (2019). The script, set in 1981, was co-written by Scott Silver, and the film stars Joaquin Phoenix in the title role.

It premiered and was screened at the 76th Venice International Film Festival in October 2019. Its sequel, Joker: Folie à Deux, stars Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn; The film, released in 2024, was also directed, co-written, and co-produced by Phillips. The film was later accepted by critics and audiences.
