The Weather Channel Television Channel

The Weather Channel was founded on July 18, 1980, by television meteorologist John Coleman (who had worked as chief meteorologist at ABC owned-and-operated station WLS-TV in Chicago and as a forecaster for Good Morning America). Was done. to be done. to be done.

The Weather Channel (TWC) is an American pay television channel owned by The Weather Group, LLC, a subsidiary of Allen Media Group. The channel is headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia.

Launched on May 2, 1982, the channel broadcasts weather forecasts and weather-related news and analysis, as well as weather-related documentaries and entertainment programming.

A sister network, WeatherScan, was a digital cable and satellite service that provided 24-hour automated local forecasts and radar imagery. WeatherScan was officially discontinued on December 12, 2022. The Weather Channel also produces outsourced weathercasts exclusively for CBS News and RFD-TV.

As of November 2023, The Weather Channel is available to approximately 68 million pay television households in the United States – down from a 2013 peak of 101 million households.

In August 2023, it was announced that IBM was selling The Weather Company and its assets to Francisco Partners.
