Star Maa Television Channel
Penemetsa Murali Krishnam Ireland established MAA Television Network as a one-person entity in 2001. Its flagship TV channel, MAA TV, was launched in April 2002. The channel started as a pay channel with eight hours a day. An initial investment of ₹25 crore was made in the venture. D. Rajendra Prasad, a veteran of the Telugu television business associated with City Cable, was also reportedly a co-promoter of the company. By 2003, Murali Krishnam Raju owned 70% of the company.
In March 2006, Nimmagadda Prasad became a promoter along with film stars Chiranjeevi and Nagarjuna by purchasing a 60% stake for ₹40 crore. [8] Following the revised capital structure, all three acquired an equal stake in the channel.
Following the restructuring, founder Murali Krishna Raju’s stake dropped to 20%. The company’s second channel, MAA Music, was launched on 30 May 2008. Star Maa is an Indian Telugu-language general entertainment pay television channel operated by Disney Star, a subsidiary of Star India. It mainly broadcasts programs like serials, reality shows, and Telugu movies.
