Sourav Ganguly Cricketer

Saurav was born on 8 July 1972 in Calcutta. He is the younger son of Chandidas and Nirupa Butler. Mr. Chandidas ran a successful printing business and was one of the richest men in Kolkata. A specific group was nicknamed the Empires and Dynasties of Childhood. Since football is the favorite game of the people of Kolkata, this challenge also attracted people in the beginning.

Sourav Chandidas Ganguly, known as Dada (“elder brother” in Bengali), was a former Indian cricket player and captain of the Indian national team. Currently, he serves as the President of the Bengal Cricket Association and also serves as the Chairman of the Editorial Board with Wisden India.

During his playing career, Ganguly proved himself to be one of the leading batsmen in the world and became one of the greatest captains of the national cricket team. He batted left-handed in the middle order and was also a good opening batsman.

After playing in various Indian domestic tournaments like Ranji Trophy and Duleep Trophy, Ganguly got his first opportunity when the Indian cricket team toured England. He scored 131 runs and confirmed his place in the Indian team. After successful performances in the series against Sri Lanka, Pakistan, and Australia and winning the Man of the Match award, Ganguly was assured of a place in the team.

Ganguly joined the Kolkata Knight Riders team as captain for the Indian Premier League tournament in 2008. In the same year, after the home Test series against Australia, he announced his retirement from international cricket.
