Shashi Ruia passes away: Indian billionaire Shashi Ruia, co-founder of Essar Group, passed away at the age of 80. Starting with a construction contract in 1969, the Ruia brothers expanded Essar into various sectors such as energy, steel, and telecommunications.
Despite facing financial challenges, Ruia later played important roles on national and international business forums, even joining the elite group, The Elders.
Indian billionaire and Essar Group co-founder Shashi Ruia has died at the age of 81.
“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mr. Shashikant Ruia, the Ruia, and patriarch of the Essar family. He was 81. With an unwavering commitment to community upliftment and philanthropy, he impacted the lives of millions and left a lasting legacy.

The official statement issued by the family on Ruia’s demise said that Shashikant Ruia’s extraordinary legacy will remain a guiding light for all of us, as we honor his vision and continue to uphold the values he nurtured and espoused.
