Ram Narain Agarwal Indian Aerospace Engineer

DRDO missile scientist Ram Narayan Agarwal, known as the father of Agni missiles, died in Hyderabad on Thursday. Aggarwal was a leader in India’s defense research and development, making significant contributions to the country’s long-range ballistic missile programme. Agarwal’s work was important in shaping India’s missile capabilities.

As the first Program Director of Agni Missiles, he played a key role in the development of these strategic weapons. His leadership and foresight earned him the nickname “Fire Man”.

Agarwal was born in Jaipur, Rajasthan to a business family. He completed his post-graduation in Aerospace Engineering from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. Aggarwal has served as Program Director (AGNI) and Director of Advanced Systems Laboratory of the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO). Ram Narayan Agarwal was an Indian aerospace engineer, known for his contributions to the Agni series of surface-to-surface missiles. He is considered the ‘Father of Agni series missiles’.

Agarwal died on 15 August 2024 at the age of 84.
