Pathum Nissanka was born on 18 May 1998 in Gol. His father Sunil Silva worked as a ground boy and had a low income. Pathum’s mother used to bloom flowers near the Kalutara temple. Pathum Nissanka Silva is a professional Sri Lankan player who competes for Sri Lanka across formats of the game.

He made the Sri Lankan cricket team for international cricket in March 2021 and is currently a stable player. On 9 February 2024, Nissanka scored an ODI double-century, becoming the first Sri Lankan to achieve the feat.

In 2019, he was included in Sri Lanka A’s squad for the first-class series against Ireland A in January 2019. He was the leading run-scorer for Sri Lanka with 258 runs in two matches. In February 2019, he scored his 1,000th run in the 2018–19 Premier League tournament while batting for Nondescripts Cricket Club against Colombo Cricket Club.

He finished the tournament as the leading run-scorer for the nondescript cricket club, with 1,088 runs in seven matches. Pathum scored his 12th T20 half-century in the second T20 match against West Indies on 15 October 2024. He played an important inning of 54 runs in 49 balls. In the end, Sri Lanka won the match by 73 runs and Pathum was awarded the Player of the Match award.
