Panangipalli Venugopal Indian surgeon
Venugopal was born on 6 July 1942 in Rajahmundry, Madras Presidency, British India. He joined the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi in 1959 to pursue an MBBS degree and continued his higher education at the institute. His first postgraduate degree was a Master of Surgery (MS), followed by an MCh degree in Cardiovascular Thoracic Surgery, which he passed with honors.
After retirement from AIIMS, Venugopal moved to Alchemist Institute of Medical Sciences in Gurgaon, Haryana as the head of the cardiothoracic department. He married at the age of 55 and has a daughter.
Panangipalli Venugopal was an Indian cardiac surgeon and hospital administrator from Rajahmundry, Andhra Pradesh, India, who is widely considered a pioneer in cardiac surgery. The Government of India awarded him the third highest civilian award, the Padma Bhushan, in 1998 for his services in the field of medicine.
Venugopal died on 8 October 2024 in New Delhi at the age of 82.
