The 2024 Summer Olympics, officially branded as the XXXIII Olympiad and Paris 2024 Games, is an international multi-sport event taking place in France from 24 July to 11 August 2024, with the opening ceremony taking place on 26 July. Paris is the host city, with events held in 16 additional cities spread across Metropolitan France and a sub-venue in Tahiti, French Polynesia.
The Games were awarded to Paris at the 131st IOC Session in Lima, Peru on 13 September 2017. After several withdrawals, leaving only Paris and Los Angeles in contention, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) approved the process to award the awards to both. Remaining candidate cities. to host the 2024 and 2028 Summer Olympics; Both bids were praised for their high-tech plans and innovative ways of using record-breaking numbers of existing and temporary facilities.
Breakdancing will be included as an Olympic sport for the first time at Paris 2024, and will be the last Olympic sport to be held during Thomas Bach’s IOC presidency. The 2024 Games are expected to cost €9 billion.
