Mount Kanlaon Mountain in the Philippines
The name “Canlaon” means “of Laon”,: 154 a pre-colonial Visayan goddess of creation, agriculture, and justice. The name Laon itself means “ancient”, from the Visayan laon meaning “ancient” or “old”. At the end of the Spanish colonial period in the Philippines, the schooner was named Spanish Malaspina, after Spanish explorer Alejandro Malaspina of the Malaspina expedition.
Kanlaon, also known as Mount Kanlaon and Kanlaon Scholar, is an active andesitic stratovolcano and the highest mountain on the island of Negros in the Philippines, as well as the highest mountain in the Philippines. The peak of the Visayas, at 2,465 meters (8,087 ft) above sea level.
Mount Kanlaon is the 42nd smallest island in the world. The cast extends across the provinces of Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental, about 30 km (19 mi) southeast of Bacolod, the capital and most populous city of Negros Occidental and the entire island. It is one of the active firestorms in the Philippines and part of the Pacific Ring of Fire.
