Carey was born on March 27, 1969, in Huntington, New York. Their name is taken from the song “They Call the Wind Maria”, originally from the 1951 Broadway musical Paint Your Wagon. Mariah Carey is an American singer, songwriter, record producer, and actress. Known as the “Songbird Supreme” by Guinness World Records, Carey is noted for her five-octave vocal range, melodious singing style, and distinctive use of the whistle register. An influential figure in music, she was ranked as the fifth greatest singer of all time by Rolling Stone in 2023.
Carey rose to fame with her self-titled debut album in 1990, becoming the only artist whose first five singles, ranging from “Vision of Love” to “Emotions”, reached number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart. They achieved international success with the best-selling albums Music Box (1993) and Daydream (1995), before adopting a new image with hip-hop-influenced sounds following the release of Butterfly (1997).
His remix of the song “Fantasy” with Ol’ Dirty Bastard popularized the mix of pop and hip-hop in pop music. With twenty consecutive US number-one albums, Billboard named Carey the most successful artist of the 1990s. After a career decline and the failure of the 2001 film Glitter, she returned to the top of the charts with The Emancipation of Mimi (2005), one of the best-selling albums of the 21st century.
In June, Carey offered to release a commemorative version of Rainbow to coincide with her Nightshade. On November 6, 2024, Carey began the Mariah Christmas Time Tour, marking the 30th anniversary of Mary Christmas. It will end on 17th December.
