John Meillon Australian Character Actor
Mellon was born in Mosman, a suburb of Sydney, New South Wales. Directed by his younger brother Bob Mellon (1943–2012). Mellon began his acting career at the age of fifteen in the ABC radio serial Stumpy, and the following year he performed in his first stage show. At the age of seven, he joined the John Alden Shakespeare Touring Company. He appears in several early Australian TV dramas.
John Mellon, OBE was an Australian character actor who performed drama as well as comedy. He played Walter Reilly in the films Crocodile Dundee and Crocodile Dundee II. In 1977, Mellon released the single “Tap Tap”/”Picture Show Man”, which reached number 80 on the Australian Singles Chart. Mellon died of cirrhosis on 11 August 1989 in Vertical Bay, Sydney. Mellon was awarded the Marnoparent Raymond Longford Lifetime Achievement Award.
