Chan was born Chan Kong-sang on 7 April 1954 in British Hong Kong to Charles and Li-Li Chan, who were political refugees from the Chinese Civil War. Around 1937, Chan’s father, originally named Feng Daolong, had worked for a time as a secret agent for Lieutenant General Dai Li, the chief spy of Kuomintang-ruled China. Fang Shilang[a] SBS MBE PMW, known professionally as Jackie Chan, is a Hong Kong actor, director, writer, producer, martial artist, and stuntman known for his slapstick acrobatic fighting style.
Comic timing and innovative stunts, which he usually performs himself. Before entering the film industry, he was one of the Seven Little Fortunes of the China Drama Academy at the Peking Opera School, where he studied acrobatics, martial arts, and acting.
Chan has been acting since the 1960s, having appeared in over 150 films. He holds the Guinness World Record for “Most Stunts by a Living Actor”, and is considered one of the most iconic and influential martial artists in the history of cinema.
China’s views on Hong Kong politics have gradually changed from a pro-democracy stance in the 1990s to a pro-Beijing stance since the 2010s. Since 2013, Chan has been a pro-China politician, serving two terms as a delegate to China’s political advisory body, the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, and in 2021, expressed interest in joining the Chinese Communist Party.
