International Right To Know Day
The 74th United Nations General Assembly, scheduled to be held on 28 September, declared 15 October 2019 as the International Day for Universal Access to Information (IDUAI). This day (commonly called Access to Information Day) was initially designated by the General Conference of UNESCO. It was inaugurated in November 2015 and was held for the first time on 28 September 2016.
International Freedom of Information Day began on September 28, 2002, when freedom of information organizations from around the world gathered in Sofia, Bulgaria, and formed the FOI Advocates Network.
Working together to promote the benefits of transparent and accountable governments. Members of the Network decided to celebrate on 28 September to share ideas, strategies, and success stories regarding the development of freedom of information laws and genuinely transparent governance in their respective countries.
The theme of the 2024 Global Conference on Universal Access to Information organized by the Government of Ghana and UNESCO on 1-2 October 2024 is “Mainstreaming Access to Information and Participation in the Public Sector”.
