International Literacy Day

International Literacy Day is celebrated every year on 8 September. On this day, we acknowledge the importance of literacy in our lives. The theme of International Literacy Day 2024 is “Promoting multilingual education: literacy for mutual understanding and peace.” This theme highlights the importance of providing education in multiple languages ​​to enhance communication and encourage mutual understanding between diverse cultures.

On 17 November 1965, UNESCO declared 8 September as International Literacy Day. It was first celebrated in 1966. It aims to highlight the importance of literacy individually, community, and socially. This festival is celebrated all over the world.

Approximately 775 million youth are affected by lack of literacy; This means that one in five youth is not yet literate and two-thirds of these are women. 67 million children do not attend school and many lack regularity or drop out.
