International Day Against Nuclear Tests

International Day Against Nuclear Testing is observed on 29 August. It was established on 2 December 2009 by resolution 64/35 of the 64th session of the United Nations General Assembly, which was adopted unanimously.

The resolution specifically calls for “raising awareness of the effects of nuclear weapon test explosions or any other nuclear explosion and the need for their cessation as a means of achieving the goal of a nuclear-weapon-free world.” The call has been made. This resolution was initiated by Kazakhstan, together with several sponsors and co-sponsors, to commemorate the closure of the Semipalatinsk nuclear test site on August 29, 1991.

Following the establishment of the International Day Against Nuclear Tests in May 2010, all State Parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons committed themselves to “achieve peace and security in a world without nuclear weapons”.

On September 15, 2014, the Embassy of Kazakhstan in the United States co-sponsored the United Nations International Nuclear Test Day with the Arms Control Association, Green Cross International, the Embassy of Canada, and the Atom Project to commemorate the “nuclear weapons test”. “. The conference was held at the US Institute of Peace in Washington DC: History, Progress, Challenges.
