Elizabeth was born on 21 April 1926, the first child of Prince Albert, Duke of York, and his wife Elizabeth, Duchess of York. Elizabeth II was Queen of the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth realms from 6 February 1952 until her death in 2022. She was queen of 32 sovereign states during her lifetime and empress of 15 states at the time of her death.
Her reign of 70 years and 214 days is the longest of any British monarch, the second longest of any sovereign state, and the longest reign of any queen in history. When her father died in February 1952, Elizabeth, then 25, became queen of seven independent Commonwealth countries: the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Pakistan, and Ceylon (today known as Sri Lanka), And she was also the head of the Commonwealth. Elizabeth ruled as a constitutional monarch during major political changes such as the crisis in Northern Ireland, the dissolution of the United Kingdom, the colonization of Africa, and the United Kingdom’s entry into and subsequent withdrawal from the European Communities.
From 21 April 1944 until her coronation, Elizabeth’s arms consisted of a lozenge bearing the royal coat of arms of the United Kingdom, labeled argent of three points, with a Tudor rose at the middle point and St George at the first point. There was a cross and the third digit. After his coronation, he inherited the various arms held by his father as sovereign, as well as a later modified representation of the crown. Elizabeth also had royal standards and personal flags for use in the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Jamaica, and elsewhere.
