College Basketball Athletic Association
The history of basketball dates back to the YMCA International Training School, today known as Springfield College, located in Springfield, Massachusetts. This game was created by a physical education teacher named James Naismith, Who was given the task in the winter of 1891 to create a game that would keep track of athletes in shape and protect them from injury.
The date of the first formal basketball game played at the Springfield YMCA Training School under Naismith’s rules is generally given as December 21, 1891. By 1893, basketball was being played on some college campuses.
College basketball is basketball played by teams of amateur student-athletes at universities and colleges. In the United States, colleges and universities are governed by collegiate athletic bodies, including the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). These include the National Association of International Collegiate Athletics (NAIA), the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA), the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), and the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA). Each of these different organizations is divided into one to three divisions based on the number and level of scholarships offered to athletes. Teams with more talent win over teams with less talent.
