Chittaranjan Das was born on 5 November 1870 in a famous Bengali Hindu Baidya Brahmin family in a village named Telirbagh located in the present Tongibari Upazila of Munshiganj (Bikrampur) district of Bangladesh. Chittaranjan Das’s father Bhubanmohan Das was one of the famous lawyers of Calcutta High Court. He also used to write poetry in Bengali. His family was a family of lawyers. Deshbandhu Chittaranjan Das, who was from Kolkata in present-day West Bengal, was the first mayor of the state. His speech in the Calcutta Municipal Corporation in defense of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose was a brilliant example of nationalist oratory.
