Alex Carey Australian Cricketer
Alex Tyson Carey is an Australian international player. A former Australian rules footballer, he currently plays for the Australian national team in Test matches and Division One formats. In domestic cricket, he plays for South Australia and Adelaide Strikers. He was captain of the Greater Western Sydney Giants in 2010, but when they joined the Australian Football League in 2012, He was therefore dropped from the team and returned to his home state of South Australia, where he began playing domestic cricket.
Carey debuted in 2013 as a top-order specialist batsman but was unsuccessful and was dropped from the team. He moved down the batting order and became the wicketkeeper. Carey was a member of the Australian teams that won the 2023 Cricket World Cup and 2023 ICC World Test Championship finals.
As a teenager, Carey played both Australian rules football and cricket, and as he grew up, he began playing football at a higher level by the age of 15. By then he was playing for Glenelg in the South Australian National Football League reserve competition with the adults. In 2008, Carey was included in South Australia’s squad for the 2008 AFL Under 18 Championships but did not play a game.
He was also in the AIS/AFL Academy Seven in 2008. He continued to progress in 2009 and played for South Australia at the 2009 AFL Under 18 Championships in addition to winning the SANFL Reserves premiership with Glenelg. Carey was included as a wicketkeeper in the ICC men’s Test squad for 2023.
In March 2024, during the second Test against New Zealand, Carey equaled Adam Gilchrist’s record for most catches in a match by an Australian wicketkeeper with 10 catches. In the second innings of the Test, he played a match-winning innings of 98* to help Australia achieve the target of 279 runs, earning him the Player of the Match award.
