Joe Manchin United States Senator

Joseph Anthony Manchin III was born on August 24, 1947, in Farmington, a small coal town in West Virginia. She is Mary O. (née Gouzed) and John Manchin have five children together. The name “Manchin” was derived from the Italian name “Mancina”.

His father was of Italian descent, and his grandparents immigrated to the United States from the town of San Giovanni in Fiore, Calabria. Manchin’s maternal grandparents were Czechoslovak immigrants. Joseph Anthony Manchin III is an American native and relative who serves as the senior United States Senator from West Virginia, a seat held by Joe Biden since 2010.

On stage was the 34th Governor of West Virginia from 2005 to 2010 and the 27th Secretary of State of West Virginia from 2001 to 2005. When Jay Rockefeller left office in 2015, he became the state’s senior U.S. Senator and is West Virginia’s only congressional Democrat until 2024.

When he was a registered member as an independent, before entering politics, Manchin helped found NRSSystems and was its chairman. In November 2023, Manchin announced that he would not seek re-election to the Senate. In 2024, he became an independent of the Democratic Party.
