Know The Truth Why International Men’s Day is Celebrated in 2024

International Men’s Day, celebrated on 19 November, aims to raise awareness about the health of men while celebrating their socio-economic, cultural and political contributions.

Inaugurated by Thomas Oster on 7 February 1992, the project of International Men’s Day was conceived a year earlier on 8 February 1991. The project was restarted in Trinidad and Tobago in 1999. The longest-running celebration of International Men’s Day is in Malta, where events have been held since 7 February 1994.

International Men’s Day (IMD) is a global awareness day for the many problems faced by men, including parental alienation, abuse, homelessness, suicide, and violence, observed every year on 19 November. The objectives of celebrating International Men’s Day are set out in ‘All Six Pillars of International Men’s Day’. It is also an occasion to celebrate the lives, achievements, and contributions of boys and men, especially their contribution to the nation, union, society, community, family, marriage, and child care. Unlike International Women’s Day, International Men’s Day is not officially recognized by the United Nations.

Why is Men’s Day celebrated?

Celebrating the positive contributions of men to society, community, family, marriage, child care, and the environment. Focusing on men’s health and well-being: social, emotional, physical, and spiritual. To highlight discrimination against men in the areas of social services, social attitudes and expectations, and law.

The 2024 theme, “Positive Male Role Models”, highlights the importance of promoting open conversations about men’s mental health and creating supportive environments where men can thrive.
