Sharda Sinha Indian Singer
Sinha was born in Hulas village of Raghopur block in Supaul district of Bihar, the only daughter among nine sons of Sukhdev Thakur. His institute is in Sihama village of the district. He started his career by singing Maithili folk songs. Sinha sang songs in Bhojpuri, Maithili, Magahi and Hindi. Prayag Sangeet Samiti organized Basant Mahotsav in Allahabad where Sinha presented several songs based on the theme of spring season.
When the arrival of spring was described through folk songs, she used to perform regularly during the Chhath Puja festival. When Mauritius Prime Minister Naveen Ramgoolam came to Bihar, he demonstrated. Sharda Sinha was an Indian folk and classical singer. Coming from Bihar, she sang mainly in Maithili and Bhojpuri languages and was called Bihar Kokila, the Cuckoo of Bihar. Sinha has sung many folk songs including “Marriage Geet”, and “Chhath Geet”. He received the Padma Shri award in 1991 for his contribution to music. He received the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 2000 for his contribution to the field of music.
He was awarded the Padma Bhushan, India’s third-highest civilian award, on the eve of Republic Day in 2018. She married Brajkishore Sinha in 1970, with whom she had a son, Anshuman, and a daughter, Vandana. In September 2024, husband Brajkishore died of a brain hemorrhage. Sinha was suffering from multiple myeloma since 2017. On 5 November 2024, he was put on ventilator support at AIIMS Delhi. He died later that night. His last rites were performed on 6 November 2024 in Patna.
