Asia Power Index 2024 India Became The Most Powerful Country in The World
The Lowy Institute released the first annual Asia Power Index in 2018 to rank countries in Asia based on their resources and influence.
The 2024 Asia Power Index report ranks 27 countries and territories. For the first time, the Southeast Asian country Timor Leste has been included in the report.
The report evaluates countries’ power on 131 indicators across eight thematic measures: military capability and defense networks, economic potential and relationships, diplomatic and cultural influence, as well as resilience and future resources.
Highlights of Asia Power Index 2024
The report highlights the changing power dynamics in the Asian region. Only two countries in Asia, the United States and China are ranked as superpowers, while India is considered a middle power.
Resilient America
According to the report, the United States has strengthened its position as the most influential power in the region. However, China is increasingly catching up with the US in terms of military capability, although militarily the US is still more powerful than China.
