Madhabi Puri Buch, Chairman, Exchange Board of India
Butch was born in 1966 to Kamal Puri and his wife Madhavi Puri. His father worked in the corporate sector while his mother was an educationist with a doctoral degree in political science. Madhabi Puri Buch Dasi is the Chairman of the regulatory body Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI). She is the first woman chairperson to lead SEBI.
Since April 2017, he has been serving as a mono member of SEBI along with former chairman Ajay Tyagi. She is also the first person from the private sector appointed to this post. In his role as Chairman of SEBI, Butch is credited with bringing about rapid changes in the system and organization for school reform.
In August 2024, short-selling activist firm Hindenburg Research accused her and her husband of accumulating shares in a company owned by Adani Group, which was used to artificially inflate Adani Group’s stock. He rejected the objection.
